Chevrolet Trailer Trip Fuel and Range Planner
Estimate fuel use and trip cost while towing based on distance, user-entered towing fuel economy, fuel price, and usable fuel capacity.
About the Chevrolet Trailer Trip Fuel and Range Planner
Towing increases fuel consumption significantly. The Chevrolet Trailer Trip Fuel and Range Planner estimates fuel use and trip cost while towing based on distance, user-entered towing fuel economy, fuel price, and usable fuel capacity.
It also estimates the number of refuel stops needed for the trip.
Formula used
total distance = trip distance x 2 if round trip
fuel required = total distance / towing MPG
trip fuel cost = fuel required x fuel price
usable capacity = tank capacity - desired reserve
refuel stops = ceil(fuel required / usable capacity) - 1
How to use
- Enter trip distance and toggle round trip.
- Enter towing MPG, fuel price, tank capacity, and reserve.
- Click Calculate to see distance, fuel, cost, and refuel stops.
Limitations
Actual consumption and safe route choices vary with conditions and vehicle configuration.
Frequently asked questions
What towing MPG should I use?
Use a conservative estimate based on your truck and trailer; towing MPG is typically much lower than unloaded MPG.
How do I estimate reserve?
